All multiwell plates are subject to the “edge effect.” Wells along the perimeter are more exposed and less insulated than interior wells, causing higher temperatures and evaporation rates. This creates a temperature and evaporation gradient across the plate that can lead to inconsistent experimental results.

Nest offers a cost-effective solution with our low-evaporation EDGE plates. These plates feature channels surrounding the wells that can be filled with liquid (such as sterile water) to serve as a thermal buffer. Because the channels are interconnected, heat is evenly distributed across the plate, effectively eliminating the edge effect.

Like all Nest culture plates, EDGE plates include alphanumeric markings for easy sample identification and raised well rims to reduce evaporation and cross-contamination. Plates also feature grooves and feet for secure stacking, along with an SBS/ANSI footprint for seamless compatibility with automated plate handlers - ideal for high-throughput workflows.
